Teching Up Together
Led by the Robotics, Automation & Integration (RAI) team, TechMate began in July 2023 in Iligan and quickly gained traction within the Food Group. Following its first successful run, the program expanded to other units and teams in Tarlac Meat Masters (TMM) and Taguig.
At its core, TechMate is driven by a mission to democratize automation skills and foster knowledge sharing. By using Google Apps Script, a robust tool for rapid application development, our A-People can unlock the potential to streamline workflows across various Google Workspace Applications, spanning Sheets, Docs, Calendar, and Drive.
The first training conducted by the Digital Solutions, Robotics, Application & Integration (DSRAI) team was assisted by 10 TechMates and 23 representatives from various departments in the Iligan Plant. By the end of their intensive training, various automation projects were developed through the TechMate program, each bringing significant benefits to their departments.
To ensure that all TechMate participants, many of whom lacked a programming background, felt confident working with Google Apps Script, they were paired with BITS software engineers in a learning partnership.
TechMate participants from TMM and Taguig completed around 20 automation projects. These initiatives encompass a wide range of activities, including Document Control, Inventory Monitoring, and Travel Requests, all aimed at achieving significant time and cost efficiencies.

Participants had the opportunity to present a vast array of automation projects, showcasing the versatility of Google Apps Script in our day-to-day activities. As these projects vie for recognition and rewards, they nurture a dynamic competitive atmosphere among our talented A-People.
Watch Nica Dalas’ presentation on truck plan automation, recognized as one of the best projects in 2023. Transitioning from the laborious task of manually sorting orders by location and item status, she was able to develop an innovative solution that streamlines the process by easily identifying customer delivery addresses and organizing them by clusters or proximity, efficiently categorizing items based on their status.
