A BRIGHTER FUTURE AHEAD: Officials from Aboitiz Foundation and DepEd formalize a partnership to electrify classrooms and bridge the digital divide through Aurora PH. Partners from DFNN Inc. and Huawei Technologies Philippines witnessed the signing of the memorandum of agreement.

Aboitiz Foundation has forged a strategic partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to bring sustainable energy solutions to last-mile schools and equip women with digital skills for the future workforce.

Aboitiz Group President and Chief Executive Officer Sabin Aboitiz and Education Secretary Sonny Angara signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to electrify and connect 300 off-grid schools across the Philippines through Aurora PH, the Aboitiz Foundation’s flagship program dedicated to sustainable energy and digital inclusion.

“This is not a short-term donation. It’s a sustainable, scalable solution—one that supports DepEd’s strategic goals, aligns with global development priorities, and reflects the Aboitiz Group’s commitment to advancing education, innovation, and inclusive growth,” Aboitiz said.

The partnership advances both the Aboitiz Group’s mission to expand access to quality education and the government’s push for nationwide digital connectivity, particularly in remote communities.

For the school year 2025-2026, DepEd has identified 11 pilot schools in Bataan, Benguet, Zambales, Cebu, and Davao City to receive solar power and internet connectivity. These schools will also be equipped with digital learning tools and benefit from capacity-building programs for teachers and staff—ensuring they can effectively maintain the equipment and integrate technology into the classroom.

EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION: Aboitiz Group President and CEO Sabin Aboitiz and DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara discuss powering up 300 off-grid schools and other education initiatives.

“Beyond providing electricity, powering schools involves empowering educators and engaging students through modern learning tools,” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara. “We are grateful for this collaboration with Aboitiz Foundation, which will have a lasting impact on our education system.”

Furthering its commitment to inclusive economic growth, the Aboitiz Foundation has also partnered with TESDA to launch a Virtual Assistant Training Program to equip women with in-demand digital skills for remote work opportunities.

Aboitiz Foundation President Ginggay Hontiveros Malvar and TESDA Director General Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez formalized the agreement to train 500 women in Virtual Assistant Services Level II, an accelerated learning program designed to enhance digital skills and employability.

BUILDING FUTURES, ONE SKILL AT A TIME: Aboitiz Foundation President Ginggay Hontiveros Malvar and TESDA Director General Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez sign a memorandum of agreement to provide advanced training for 500 women in virtual assistance, empowering them with tools for success in the digital world.

“By equipping women with critical skills in emerging industries such as AI, data analytics, e-commerce and digital marketing, we’re not just helping them secure jobs. We are also empowering them to become leaders in the workplace and their communities,” Hontiveros Malvar said.

Director General Benitez emphasized the timeliness and significance of the partnership, given the rising global demand for AI and data annotation specialists.

“This initiative will bridge the gap between technical vocational education and industry needs, providing women in grassroots communities with real employment opportunities through remote work,” he said. “Through partnerships like this, we hope to empower more Filipinos with the skills to succeed in the digital economy.”

The initiative is part of Elevate AIDA, the Aboitiz Foundation’s flagship program that aims to equip 300,000 women across the Philippines with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

By championing education, innovation, and workforce readiness, Aboitiz Foundation continues to drive sustainable and transformative change, ensuring that every Filipino—regardless of location or background—has access to opportunities for learning and growth.
