For those of you who know me, I am Stacy. For those who don’t, well, now you do.

I’ve been described as overly talkative, energetic, and even a bit mischievous. On a bad day, I might be the “mataray” officer of TSG. But like the Yin-Yang symbol, we all possess a duality. I can be a walking sunflower or a determined zombie, with no in-between.

My journey at A-Land began five years ago, much like many of yours. I sought a company that fosters growth, values its employees, and provides clear career paths. My previous experience left much to be desired, so after two months and nearly ten interviews, I prayed for guidance and found my way here. God truly is good!

Initially, I worked behind the scenes on production drawings. While my bosses were sequestered in meeting rooms, I pondered when I might join them. I realized that to ascend, I needed to improve, do better, and always give my best. However, a self-limiting mindset held me back. I questioned whether my opinions mattered and assumed others knew better.

During those early years, I formed lasting friendships that helped me navigate corporate life and encountered many who generously shared their knowledge. The pre-pandemic period was fruitful but then came the pandemic, and I feared losing my job. As a breadwinner and the eldest daughter, my anxieties ran deep. Yet, I was fortunate to be among the chosen ones to remain. This reaffirmed my commitment to excellence and the belief that I was chosen for a reason.

Those pandemic years were challenging for everyone, but they also marked my emergence from a self-imposed cocoon. In our DMT team, as an Associate, I collaborated with Kev and Joh, juggling multiple projects. We worked tirelessly, sometimes meeting until 11 PM, fueled by caffeine and the need to review critical documents. I am grateful for the company’s unwavering support during that time, especially when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I faced the daunting task of balancing work with accompanying her to chemotherapy sessions. I could have taken leave, but I chose to persevere, driven by a desire to support my team. Aland’s flexible work arrangements made this possible, allowing me to fulfill my responsibilities while caring for my mother.

I expressed to Kev my desire for greater challenges, and he promptly entrusted me with the Ajoyas project. This opportunity allowed my personality to truly flourish.

I may not be as skilled as my former TLs, particularly Kev, but I aspire to emulate their excellence and even surpass it. I adopted a sponge-like approach, absorbing knowledge and constantly assessing my capabilities. I abandoned the limiting belief that I should remain in my lane and simply complete my tasks. That mindset had trapped me for two years. With the guidance of my TLs and colleagues, I identified my strengths and allowed my personality to shine through my work. This led to a natural, effortless approach.

Since then, I have been promoted, taking on greater responsibilities and more demanding tasks. The transition has been eased by A-Land’s culture, which fosters collaboration and a shared commitment to the team and company’s success. The bonds we’ve formed make the work enjoyable and rewarding.

My five years at A-Land have been transformative. I have overcome self-doubt and feelings of inferiority. It’s okay if you haven’t reached your aspirational goals yet. Embrace challenges and strive valiantly! We must constantly crave continuous  self-improvement and never settle for stagnation.

This, I believe, is one of the greatest responsibilities of a leader: to be the person your team aspires to be.
